Welcome to the Web site for The Study of State and Local Implementation and Impact of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (SLIIDEA). Conducted by Abt Associates Inc. with its subcontractors Westat and SRI, for the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs, SLIIDEA will examine how the Amendments of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 1997 are being implemented by states, school districts, and schools. In particular, it will address issues focused on student performance, access to the curriculum, behavioral supports, parental involvement, and transitions for young children to school and older children to adult life. A full report, 8-page summary report, and a presentation entitled Improving Results for Students with Disabilities: Key Findings from the 1997 National Assessment Studies are now available on the Reports page. The reports and presentation provide a synthesis of key findings that have emerged to date across the currently available data from the seven OSEP-funded national assessment studies that followed the reauthorization of IDEA in 1997.
Just Released UPDATE (May 2005): The Final 2nd Interim Report (2002-2003 School Year) is now posted in the Reports page. March 2005: A New Policy Brief entitled Paperwork and Administrative Duties in Special Education: A View From the Field was posted in the Reports page. February 2005: Wave 3 Data Tables were made available that summarize results from surveys conducted of states during the 2003-2004 school year. September 2004: Wave 4 State, District, and School questionnaires were posted on the Data Collection Instruments page. April 2004: Posted on the Reports page were slides from a March 2004 presentation on district and school capacity of to meet the needs of teachers educating students with disabilities. January 2004: An article in the January 28, 2004 Education Week highlighted selected findings on how states and districts are including students with disabilities in accountability systems.
